Mentorship Matters

We know what we don’t know. That’s why at Surge Academy, our community of Christian mentors is here to help. We want our young men to see what serving unashamedly really looks like in today’s world. We’ll regularly visit the workplace of our mentors and invite them into speak during our chapels to illuminate for them the power of a sold-out life lived for Jesus Christ. It is the necessity that our children are not only taught about the Christian values of service and love that they should have, but learn how to put them into action in an evil world.

Community Impact: Service First

First of all, servants of all. The youth of Surge Academy will acquaint themselves with a life of service through the understanding of stewardship. Each student has been endowed with certain gifts and talents by God, “to the kind intention of his will.” Surge students must embrace the fact that those gifts must be used to build up the kingdom of God and to give God glory in everything that they do. Once they do this, their lives will become more meaningful, impactful and their education will have a ‘why’ not commonly associated with the regular pursuits of education.

Creating test takers and not thinkers and creatives hurts the future of the Christian faith in this country. We are striving to teach our young men the value of a Christian worldview and how they fit in the greater predestined plans of almighty God.

Surge Academy Football Enters Year Two, Dee Powell Named Head Coach

Surge Academy of Hollywood, Florida, having just completed its first two years as a school and gaining a national accreditation, has taken another milestone step. The school announced today that it will improve its football program by hiring a permeant head coach for the first time during the 2021-22 academic school year. Frist year head coach, Dee Powell, has been hired to lead Surge Academy into its first full season.

“It’s been my dream to build a program from the ground up,” Powell said.

Coach Powell has over 10 years of experience, as an assistant coach, in Miami-Dade county. Powell comes to Surge Academy having most recently served as the assistant head coach at Avante Guard Charter, also in Hollywood, Florida.

“Beginning a new program, my first thought was to hire the best coach around. Coach Powell is someone I’ve come to know and has great references throughout south Florida with programs and individuals he’s worked with. I was impressed with the depth of experience in the football game. We couldn’t be more excited to have him at Surge Academy,” said school Headmaster Alvin L. Daniels.

Coach Powell is a graduate of Miami-Dade County Schools and he’s married with children, two of whom attend Surge Academy.

Surge Academy is an independent football program playing football interscholastically in South Florida and beyond.
